Recapping NBA Trades

76ers Receive: 2017 1st Overall Pick
Celtics Receive: 2017 3rd Overall Pick, 2018 Lakers 1st Round Pick or Kings or 76ers 2019 First Round Pick

If the 76ers ever manage to stay healthy they will be the kings of the East for years to come. The big three is now complete with Joel Embiid, who was phenomenal in 31 games last season; last year's first-overall pick Ben Simmons, who has yet to appear in a game; and this year's first overall pick Markelle Fultz. They also have Dario Saric who may win rookie of the year and former third-overall pick Jahlil Okafor. Giving up the third-overall pick and another first rounder seems like a fair price for the 76ers and Boston was able to select their guy as well in Jayson Tatum. Isaiah Thomas will run the point for Boston for many years to come so there was no need to draft Fultz.

Winner: Both Teams

Bulls Receive: Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn, 2017 7th Overall Pick
Timberwolves receive: Jimmy Butler, 2017 16th Overall Pick

Jimmy Butler is one of the very best players in the NBA and the Chicago Bulls traded him for nothing. Butler averaged 23.9 PTS last year and helped the Bulls reach the playoffs where they were beating the number one seed Celtics until Rajon Rondo went down with an injury. Zach LaVine is the slam-dunk champion but that does not speak to how good he is; LaVine is still a great young player who averaged 18.7 PTS before his season was ended after tearing his ACL. Kris Dunn went fifth-overall last year but only averaged 3.8 PTS with 2.4 AST not showing any of the flash that got him drafted that high. The Bulls pick was Lauri Markkanen who has a bright future ahead of him and the Wolves snagged Justin Patton. With two former first-overall picks in Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns, who are still only 21 and 22 years old and both averaging over 23.0 PTS, this team will be a playoff contender and may win many championships down the road.

Winner: Timberwolves

Lakers Receive: Brook Lopez, 2017 27th Overall Pick
Nets Receive: D'Angelo Russell, Timofey Mozgov

This trade could be the indication all-star Paul George will take his talents to the Lakers in the offseason and possibly LeBron James too. Mozgov was given the worst contract in the NBA last offseason and to get rid of the last three years of his $64-million contract they needed to unload a very good young point guard in D'Angelo Russell. They drafted Lonzo Ball who has a way higher ceiling than Russell so they are not losing much because they got Brook Lopez who still ranks among the top 10 centres in the league. D'Angelo Russell will have to be the Nets' savior as they have traded away all their picks.

Winner: Lakers

Hawks Receive: Marco Belinelli, Miles Plumlee, 2017 41st Overall Pick
Hornets Receive: Dwight Howard, 2017 31st Overall Pick

The Hawks gave Dwight Howard way too much money and they had to pay for it by trading down in the draft. Charlotte already has a superman in Cam Newton but they got themselves another one in Howard, but unfortunately he is long past his prime. Kemba Walker needs help and Howard may be the answer but more than likely he won't be. The Italian Marco Belinelli played well last year averaging 10.5 PTS while Miles Plumlee only averaged 2.5 PTS. The Hornets moved up in the draft snagging Frank Jackson who got traded to New Orleans for the 40th pick (Dwayne Bacon) and cash considerations while the Hawks selected NCAA tournament standout from Oregon Tyler Dorsey. Nobody wins this trade because the Hawks put themselves in a bad position and the Hornets took on Howard's contract.

Winner: Nobody

Pelicans Receive: 2017 52nd Overall Pick
Wizards Receive: Tim Frazier

Tim Frazier will be a good backup to John Wall next year in DC and he came at a cheap price. Brandon Jennings did not do it last year so Washington gets a proven player who played starting minutes last year when Jrue Holiday was away with his wife. The Pelicans drafted Xavier guard Edmond Sumner who missed March Madness with a season-ending injury but he was flipped to Indiana for cash considerations.

Winner: Wizards
