Chicago Bears Season Preview

The Bears were a disaster last year only winning three games and their troubles continued into the draft. The Bears moved up from three to two to draft quarterback Mitch Trubisky who is not even ready to play in the NFL next year. Even with John Fox coaching again next year expect another terrible season from the Bears.

Arrivals/Departures:

Arrivals: Prince Amukamara, Marcus Cooper, Benny Cunningham, Quintin Demps, Mike Glennon, Jaye Howard, Mark Sanchez, Dion Sims, Markus Wheaton, Kendall Wright, Victor Cruz
Departures: Jay Cutler, Jacoby Glenn, Demontre Hurst, Alshon Jeffery, Ted Larsen, Tracy Porter, Cornelius Washington

Offence:

The Bears can finally move on from quarterback disappointment Jay Cutler after years of failure. They have brought in Jameis Winston's backup from Tampa Bay, Mike Glennon, to serve as the quarterback. They also traded up for the second-overall pick to select UNC quarterback Mitch Trubisky but he will sit behind Glennon for the start of his career. Jordan Howard is the Bears' best player and coming off a rookie season where he finished second in the NFL in yards, he should get more attention from opposing defences. The trio of Jeremy Langford, Ka'Deem Carey and Benny Cunningham will back Howard up. Cameron Meredith will be Glennon's number one target through the air this year with former first-round pick Kevin White playing along him after two injury-plagued seasons. Wide receiver free agent additions Kendall Wright, Rueben Randle, Markus Wheaton and Victor Cruz add depth at their positions. Zach Miller and Dion Sims will split the tight end snaps with rookie Adam Shaheen behind them. The interior of the offensive line looks good with Cody Whitehair, Josh Sitton and Kyle Long but the tackles are weak with Bobby Massie and Charles Leno starting.

Defence:

Akiem Hicks, Mitch Unrein and Jaye Howard will get their share of snaps at the defensive end spots with Eddie Goldman starting between them at nose tackle. The line backing core is deep on the Bears with Pernell McPhee and Leonard Floyd patrolling the edges of the unit. Solid tacklers Danny Trevathan and Jerrell Freeman will clog up opponent's run games next season while capable starters Lamar Houston, Willie Young, Sam Acho, Nick Kwiatkoski and Dan Skuta will get a share of the defensive snaps. Kyle Fuller has a new corner back mate in the secondary with Prince Amukamara coming over from Jacksonville to help the youngster grow. Veteran safety Quintin Demps comes over from Houston to form a safety tandem with Adrian Amos improving the secondary from last season.

Special Teams:

Connor Barth returns as the field goal kicker for another year and Pat O'Donnell will once again be the Bears' punter. The most likely player to return punts and kickoffs will be wide receiver Deonte Thompson.
