NBA Free Agency Week 1

Signings:

Taj Gibson-Minnesota Timberwolves: 2 year, $28M

Gibson will compete with Gorgui Dieng for the starting power forward spot on a much-improved Timberwolves team. Gibson will be a consistent double-figure scorer in Minnesota, as he was in Chicago, and will likely be the sixth man.

Serge Ibaka-Toronto Raptors: 3 years, $65M

Ibaka came over at the trade deadline from Orlando for Terrence Ross and a first-round pick, bringing his defensive play to Toronto. Ibaka led the team in threes during his short tenure but it was just a sample size. We will have to see what he does for a full season in the six.

Jodie Meeks-Washington Wizards: 2 years, $7M

The Wizards have struggled to find a backup and they are hoping Meeks can provide insurance for them. In 36 games last season, Meeks played well filling in as a backup on a young Orlando team.

Kyle Korver-Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 years, $22M

This sharpshooter returns to the Eastern Conference champs for another three years after spending the last half the season there. Korver is one of his generation's best three-point shooters and he can still deliver - despite getting up there in age - shooting 45.1 per cent from deep last season.

Nene-Houston Rockets: 3 years, $11M

Nene will provide the Rockets with a good backup at the center position especially with so many of the rotation players shipped off to LA. He has been around the league for a while and was solid for Houston last year playing great vs the Spurs in the playoffs.

Kyle Lowry-Toronto Raptors: 3 years, $100M

Lowry returns to the North to finish what he started with DeMar Derozan getting the money he wanted but the term the Raptors wanted. Lowry is the Raptors' best player but even at the wrong side of 30 the Raps could not let him go if they want to contend with the Cavs and Celtics.

Ben McLemore-Memphis Grizzlies: 2 years, $10.7M

Like many top draft picks of the Sacramento Kings, McLemore struggled to find a rhythm during his time with the team. A fresh start in Memphis might be exactly what he needs for his career to start going in the direction expected after his college days.

Justin Holiday-Chicago Bulls: 2 years, $9M

With the Bulls losing many key players the off-season they brought in Holiday who has journeyed his way through the league playing on five teams in five years. Holiday can be a backup for whoever the Bulls use as their starter this year.

Paul Millsap-Denver Nuggets: 3 years, $90M

Millsap leaves the Hawks after a successful run with the team falling to LeBron James twice in the conference finals. Millsap will add another element to the Nuggets as he teams up with Nikola Jokic giving them a scary front court for their push for the post-season.

Darren Collison-Indian Pacers: 2 years, $20M

With the departure of Jeff Teague and now Monta Ellis, the Pacers needed somebody to run the offence and Collison will be that man. Collison will help a team that will be looking to rebuild next season after trading their star in Paul George.

Kevin Durant-Golden State Warriors: 2 years, $53M

Durant took a pay cut to allow the Warriors extra money to give to star sixth man Andre Iguodala showing how much he wants to win. Durant is one of the very best players in the NBA as he showed during the finals dominating the Cavs, claiming MVP along with his first championship.

Mike Scott-Washington Wizards: Veteran Minimum

Mike Scott struggled last year averaging 2.5 points per game in a limited role with the Hawks. He won't play much but adds depth to a weak bench in Washington.

George Hill-Sacramento Kings: 3 years, $57M

Hill takes his talents to Sacramento and will help develop fifth-overall pick De'Arron Fox as Sacramento rebuilds. With Demarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay gone, Hill will have to be Sacramento's best player.

Zach Randolph-Sacramento Kings: 2 years, $24M

Sixteen-year veteran considered ring chasing for less money in Cleveland but ultimately opted for more money on a rebuilding team. Randolph can still play posting 14.1 points last year coming off the bench but he may start in Sacramento.

Omri Casspi-Golden State Warriors: 1 year, $2M

The Israel native played for three teams last year in what was an off year for the veteran. If Casspi can play like he did a couple years ago, it gives the Warriors another element to their game.

Gordon Hayward-Boston Celtics: 4 years, $128M

Hayward ditched the Jazz to go join his former Butler coach Brad Stevens and the Celtics in an attempt to take out LeBron, pulling off a less-drastic Kevin Durant move. He escapes the stacked West but still has to get past the Cavs before he can get a chance at his first title which won't come easy.

Danilo Gallinari-Los Angeles Clippers: 3 years, $65M

With the addition of Paul Millsap in Denver, the Nuggets no longer needed Gallinari so he signed with the already-crowded front court in Los Angeles. Gallinari will team up with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan to dominate down low on opponents.

Patrick Patterson-Oklahoma City Thunder: 3 years, $16M

The Thunder keep adding with the addition of Patrick Patterson, who struggles to score sometimes but spreads the floor very well. When Patterson is on target he can add three-point shooting to Oklahoma City but he can be very inconsistent shooting the long ball.

Nick Young-Los Angeles Lakers: 1 year, $5.2M

Swaggy P joins a stacked Warriors team as he took a pay cut to try and win the championship. Young adds another layer of three-pointers to the Warriors improving their shooting even more from last year's championship winning team.

Dion Waiters-Miami Heat: 4 years, $52M

Dion Waters was playing great for the Heat until an injury ended his season halfway through the year. Waiters upped his point production by six points last season but it will be interesting to see if he can score at that pace for a whole year.

Andre Roberson-Oklahoma City Thunder: 3 years, $30M

Roberson is an elite defender and can guard anyone at his position but he struggled to score on a team that had no shooting last year. With the additions of Paul George and Patrick Patterson, Roberson won't be relied on to score anymore.

Dirk Nowitzki-Dallas Mavericks: 2 years, $10M

Dirk will return to Dallas for his 20th season with the team tying Kobe Bryant for most seasons with a single team. Even at his age, the future hall of famer can still contribute to a Dallas team not likely to be playoff bound.

Milos Teodosic-Los Angeles Clippers: 2 years, $12.3M

Teodosic played in Europe last year but has decided to give the NBA team a try coming to the Clippers to replace Chris Paul.

Kelly Olynyk-Miami Heat: 4 years, $50M

The Celtics got a shot at the Cavaliers because of Olynyk's incredible game seven vs the Washington Wizards in the second round. Olynyk is still young and with a bigger role in South Beach, he could improve even more showing that game seven was no fluke.

Rudy Gay-San Antonio Spurs: 2 years, $17M

Gay's best years are behind him but he can still score and adds another force to try and take down the Warriors. In the stacked West, the Spurs needed to add a scorer and they accomplished that for a cheap price.

Vince Carter-Sacramento Kings: 1 year, $8M

Vinsanity will join Nowitzki as the only two active players from the 1998 draft class still playing. You won't be seeing any more through-the-leg slams but Carter can still be a good depth player on a Kings team looking for a veteran presence.

James Johnson-Miami Heat: 4 years, $60M

Johnson was good during his first season with the Heat after spending most of the year before on the bench in Toronto. He even occasionally played point guard and was very comfortable carrying up the ball during Miami's offence.

Tyreke Evans-Memphis Grizzlies: 1 year, $3.3M

Evans will no longer net 15 points per game but he can still yield double-digit point production. With the loss of veterans Zach Randolph and Vince Carter, Evans will get a decent role for the Grizzlies.

Mike Muscala-Atlanta Hawks: 2 years, $10M

Muscala re-signs with the Hawks after half of their team broke up this week and will get a bigger role with Dwight Howard and Paul Millsap gone. Muscala is not an accomplished scorer but with more playing time his stats could improve.

Bojan Bogdanovic-Indiana Pacers: 2 years, $21M

Bogdanovic will get a large role on a depleted Pacers team as they start rebuilding after the Paul George era in Indy. Bogdanovic played well during the Wizards' playoff run after his trade from Brooklyn and he shoots the three ball well.

Raymond Felton-Oklahoma City Thunder: 1 year, Veteran Minimum

The veteran Raymond Felton will be MVP Russell Westbrook's new backup in OKC after Semaj Christon and Cameron Payne failed a year ago. Felton can bring his experience as OKC looks to upset its former superstar Kevin Durant and the Warriors.

Zaza Pachulia-Golden State Warriors: 1 year, $3.5M

The Warriors will getting their starting five back with the signing of Pachulia and with the additions of other player, they look primed for another run. Pachulia won't be used much in the offence but with JaVale McGee not signed yet he could get more playing time.

Trades:

Heat Receive: Cash Considerations
Mavericks Receive: Josh McRoberts

With James Johnson re-signing and the addition of Kelly Olynyk, the Heat no longer required the services of McRoberts. The Mavericks don't really need him though because they are not going to make the playoffs. I think it would have been better for both teams if they did not make this trade.

Winner: None

Celtics Receive: Marcus Morris
Pistons Receive: Avery Bradley, 2023 Second Round Pick

Image result for avery bradley

Bradley is one of the star defensive shooting guards in the league and this trade most likely happened because they added Gordon Hayward. Bradley will help a Pistons team who struggled last year and could put them into the playoff race. Morris is a downgrade from Bradley but with the loss of Kelly Olynyk and Amir Johnson, they needed another big to play rather than a guard. With Olynyk gone and now Bradley, the addition of Gordon Hayward seems to be getting worse especially if they go on to move more pieces like Jae Crowder or Marcus Smart.

Winner: Pistons
